National Emergencies Trust Coronavirus Appeal reaches new milestone enabling funding to reach over 5,000 charities.

The Covid19 Support Fund is delighted to welcome news from the National Emergencies Trust that their emergency Coronavirus Appeal has reached over 1400 frontline charities and community groups that provide vital wellbeing services  in the 9 weeks since its launch and that the Appeal has now raised £80m.

In its first eight weeks, NET’s Coronavirus Appeal received more than £60m in pledges from businesses, charitable trusts and the public - and distributed more than £30m of this to local charities and organisations supporting those in urgent need. With the launch of the Covid-19 Support Fund from the Insurance and Long-terms savings industry on 18 May, and the first allocation of funding from the Fund, this total has now reached £80m.

The new data was unveiled as the Duke of Cambridge spoke with two Scottish beneficiaries of NET funds who are providing vital mental health assistance: Finding Your Feet, a charity providing mental and physical support to amputees based in Paisley, and PEEK, a children’s charity based in Glasgow, which has seen a surge in demand for mental health support.

Commenting on the news, Yvonne Braun, Director of Policy, Long-Term Savings and Protection, Association of British Insurers, said:

“Many charities have lost summer fundraising and shop income and now face huge shortfalls at a time when many people need their support more than ever given the impact of Covid-19. This is why the insurance and long-term savings industry is determined through the Covid-19 Support Fund to help the National Emergencies Trust continue with their vital work by providing vital funds to support communities throughout the UK.”
